Updating is the same as installing: run the installer over the top. Your connections live in the InDesign document, so nothing is lost.
- Footnotes become real InDesign footnotes, from Google Docs and from Word files. Numbering, the footnote paragraph style and the marker character style come from your own Type Document Footnote Options. A note with two paragraphs stays two paragraphs, and footnotes inside table cells work when tables arrive as real InDesign tables.
- Manual line breaks are kept. Shift+Enter in the document becomes a forced line break instead of collapsing to a space, so verse keeps its line endings and stays one paragraph.
- Superscript and subscript are applied alongside bold and italic, on text DriveSync adds.
- An object style for images, set in Import Options, so a tall picture no longer overprints the lines beneath it.
- Presets can be exported and imported, so a studio shares one style mapping across machines.
Footnotes and line breaks are off by default, so updating never changes an existing layout on its own. Turn them on in Import Options Paragraph: “Import the Doc’s footnotes as InDesign footnotes” and “Keep manual line breaks (Shift+Enter) from the Doc”.
Before you install
- Adobe InDesign 2026 on macOS or Windows. DriveSync installs for 2026 only and leaves any other version you have untouched.
- The email address your licence was issued to. That is what activates DriveSync on this computer — not necessarily your Google address. Don’t have one yet? Request a 30-day trial.
- An internet connection. The licence is checked every time DriveSync runs. On a filtered studio network,
script.google.commust be reachable. - No administrator rights. The installer copies into your own user folder, and there is nothing to configure afterwards.
Install it in four steps
- Unzip the download to a folder of its own.On Windows choose Extract All rather than running the installer from inside the ZIP, which fails in confusing ways.
- Quit InDesign 2026 completely.The panel and the DriveSync menu only load when InDesign starts.
- Run
Install-Mac.commandorInstall-Windows.bat.macOS Gatekeeper and Windows SmartScreen warn about any unsigned script from the internet. The installation guide shows how to continue past both. - Start InDesign and open Window Extensions DriveSync, then activate with your licence email.
